In the far future, on a world that might be our own, Drummoch lives a simple, solitary life out in the wilderness. All his physical needs are met, and he is oblivious to everything outside his own small bubble of existence. But terrible things have happened in his past, and when the memories start to resurface, they drive him away from everything he knows.
As he journeys towards the City on the coast, he is forced to confront the horrors of what came before, of the war and the dark machines, not all of which are safely dead and buried.
